Westbury Depot
Dallas Sutherland was commissioned by the property owner, Frank Bardenhagen, in 1987 to paint a series of murals for the Westbury Gemstone & Mineral Display Centre, depicting local historical buildings and Tasmanian Flora and Fauna. Murals eventually totaled around 100 over a 6 year period. In 1991-92 further exterior murals were added, Nicholas Watson from Adelaide assisted. At some stage over the years the interior murals were removed from the walls. For several years following the large shed was leased for various uses until 2008. In 2009 Grant and Jan Bingley restored and placed the beautiful paintings of local places of interest back onto the walls of the warehouse. In November 2009 Mr Sutherland accepted Grant & Jan’s invitation to return to Tasmania and paint another mural, this time of the Westbus buses outside the Westbury Village Green.
Mr Sutherland’s professional qualifications include : Mr Sutherland continues to paint murals for business and private homes and has a keen interest in Literature, having written the first book in a Fantasy trilogy for young teen readers. |
